A $20K Heist With a Twist

2 men, 1 with a baby stroller, allegedly hold up North Philly store

Two men with a baby stroller allegedly robbed a worker preparing to open a North Philadelphia check-cashing store Wednesday morning.

One of the guys allegedly demanded cash as he pulled a gun on a female employee as she opened America’s Cash Express on Germantown Ave. around 8:40, said Philadelphia Police Lt. Frank Vanore.

While the man pushed his way into the store another man stood across the street appearing to push a baby stroller, police said.

Eventually the robber emerged from the store with more than $20,000, according to police.

He and his stroller-pushing accomplice ran northbound on Germantown Ave.

The guy who allegedly stole the money was described as a black male, about 40 years old and wearing tan Muslim garb. The guy with the stroller was described as a black male possibly in a dark jacket.

Some witnesses thought they saw a child but police couldn’t confirm if a child was in the stroller.

Cops were pouring over surveillance tapes from nearby stores and inside the robbed store Wednesday to see if they could identify the robbers and if they actually had a child with them while allegedly committing the crime.

This comes just days after two parents allegedly left their child behind after they robbed a South Street jewelry store.
