Officers Rescue Teenager From Schuylkill at Regatta

Two Philadelphia police Marine Unit divers knew something was wrong when they saw a head and two hands bobbing in the water Saturday as they patrolled the Schuylkill River during a regatta.

They saw a 15-year-old boy struggling to stay above water near a wall lining the river along Kelly Drive, Sgt. Eric Gripp said. One of the officers, identified only as Officer Graves, jumped in the water to rescue the teenage boy. The other officer was identified as Officer Costello in a tweet by Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan.

The boy, who fell in the water while playing Frisbee, was checked by medics and cleared to go home, police said.

The teenager was attending the Independence Dragon Boat Regatta on the river.
