Parents Camp Outside Popular Local School

Parents have gathered in West Philadelphia to get their kids a highly coveted spot at the Penn Alexander School.

A large group of people are camping out on the 4200 block of Spruce Street and it’s not the latest Occupy Wall Street group. Instead parents are waiting in the hopes that their children will be able to occupy something else: kindergarten.

An enrollment cap was placed at the Penn Alexander School last summer due to overcrowding. Around 70 parents began camping outside the school's building on Sunday at 9 a.m. to try and gain a spot for their kids.

β€œWe appreciate the chance to go to a good public school,” said one parent in an email sent to NBC 10. β€œBut this is ridiculous to have to camp out for 24 hours.”

Registration for Penn Alexander begins Monday at 9 a.m.
