First Philly Homicide of 2011

The first homicide in Philadelphia happened at 6:25 a.m. on January 1, Philly.com reported.

Police said Rawl Mitchell, 24, died in an apparent robbery attempt in the Feltonville neighborhood.

Mitchell had been walking home from a New Year's party with a 23-year-old female when they were accosted by an unknown man.  Police said Mitchell was shot multiple times in the torso.

His female companion was also shot in the leg, but was taken to Frankford Hospital.  She is in stable condition.

Mitchell lived in the Oxford Circle section of Philadelphia.
