North Philadelphia Shooting Leaves Man in Extremely Critical Condition

A young man remained in a Philadelphia hospital in extremely critical condition early Sunday after a shooting in North Philadelphia's Fairhill neighborhood.

Police responded to Gurney Street near Howard about 5 a.m. for the report of the shooting. The victim, a 21-year-old man, went to nearby Episcopal Hospital in a private vehicle and was later airlifted to Temple University Hospital, police said.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the man had been sitting on the front steps of a house on the block when someone opened fire on him, wounding him in the face and neck.

No arrests were reported early Sunday, and police continued to investigate.
