Eleven people were arrested and nearly six kilograms of heroin and crack cocaine were seized in a raid of 13 homes Thursday by state and city authorities in Philadelphia.
The drugs found as part of the operation, dubbed "the Kensington Initiative" because it centered around a location in the northern Philadelphia neighborhood, add up to 170,000 doses, authorities said. It has a street value of $1.8 million, the Pennsylvania Attorney General said in a statement.
The heroin and crack confiscated were primarily sold out of a house in the 3300 block of Argyle Street, two blocks from Kensington Avenue, the attorney general's office said.
Drug-packaging material was seized at a house in the 6200 block of Cardiff Street in Northeast Philadelphia, officials said.
The 11 people arrested are charged with running a drug trafficking ring that operated with about $7.7 million in street-value drugs annually, the attorney general's office said.
Each person arrested will be charged with corruption organizations, conspiracy and possession with intent to deliver narcotics.
