Mom, Son Caught in Crossfire: Cops

Police are searching for a maroon-colored sedan in connection with the gun battle.

A mother and son are recovering at Hahnemann University Hospital after being shot on the sidewalk Sunday in the Richard Allen Projects in Philadelphia, according to the victim's husband.

The husband tells NBC10's Katy Zachry that his wife, Kia Rogers, and 15-year-old son Dykeem were standing behind a mailbox on the 800-block of North 10th Street when they were hit by stray bullets.

It happened Sunday night around 6:30 p.m. A shooter on foot exchanged gunfire with someone in a maroon Sedan, according to investigators. Police say the 36-year-old woman was shot once in the left knee. The teen was shot once in the back.

Dad says both mom and son are doing well.

Neighbor Beauford Davis told NBC10 he spoke to Kia Rogers moments before the shooting.

"She said, 'leave this area right now because they are going to start shooting right around here,'" said Davis. "Then 10 minutes later they started shooting."

Police believe the victims were innocent bystanders caught in a crossfire. No arrests have been made.
