Man Shoots Himself While Firing at Targets on Game Lands: Police

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says a man shooting targets on state game lands near Pittsburgh apparently killed himself accidentally.

Tom Fazi, a commission supervisor in southwestern Pennsylvania, says it appears 64-year-old Robert Chamberlain, of Sewickley, slipped and fell and was wounded in the chest when his shotgun fired.

Evidence from the scene in Marshall Township, just north of Pittsburgh, shows Chamberlain had set up targets and fired at least one round before the accident occurred.

The Allegheny County medical examiner and the Northern Regional Police Department were investigating. They'll have the final say as to whether the shooting is determined to be an accident. That was still pending Thursday.

The incident was reported about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.
