UDel Coed Sexually Assaulted

A University of Delaware student was sexually assaulted early Sunday by a stranger who followed her into her dorm room, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the Rodney Residence Hall complex.

The victim told police that a man followed her into the residence hall and into her room where he touched her sexually before she sent her resident assistant a text message.

The RA arrived and was able to get the man to leave, police said. The suspect then tried to enter another residence hall, was stopped by other resident assistant and then left the campus.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, about 5-foot-7 with an average build and short brown hair. He was last seen dressed in a long-sleeve red shirt or sweater with blue jeans.

UD Police are looking at surveillance video to see they can identify the man.

Safety alert signs have been posted in the area and extra patrols are being conducted by campus police.

The University issued this statement on Wednesday:

The University of Delaware campus and public safety officers are continuing to gather evidence in this ongoing investigation. Because the outcome of the investigation has not been finalized, it is premature to make any conclusions or issue a statement.
