Man Dies After Car He Was Working on Explodes

Bethlehem man burned to death after gas tank explodes in car he was working on

A Pennsylvania man is dead after the gas tank of a car he was working on exploded, badly burning him.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office says 47-year-old Kenneth Mitchell died Wednesday evening, about 12 hours after the car caught fire inside a Bethlehem Township garage.

Mitchell was working on a car in a six-bay garage when the gas tank exploded, sparking a fire that took about a half-hour to extinguish, according to officials.

Nancy Run Fire Chief Jamie Hauze tells The Morning Call of Allentown the cause of the fire remains under investigation but Mitchell was apparently lowering a tank into the vehicle near a space heater.
