Landlord Attacks Tenant with Machete: Cops

Police say the owner of an eastern Pennsylvania rooming house is charged with a machete attack on a tenant who was three weeks behind on his rent.

The Reading Eagle reported Monday  that Moises Ortiz-Berroa hit Rafael Cuevas with the machete in the tenant's apartment.

Ortiz-Berroa is charged with assault, reckless endangerment and weapons violations. It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.

Police say he told Cuevas to pay or leave, but the tenant said he needed time to gather his belongings.

Authorities say Ortiz-Berroa returned moments later Saturday with the machete, raised it over his head and struck Cuevas on the forearm and three or four times on the back.

Two other tenants grabbed the landlord and pulled him away from Cuevas. He wasn’t injured.
