A longtime La Salle University employee turned himself into authorities Tuesday morning after being accused of stealing millions from the school, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
Stephen Greb, 58, of Blue Bell, Pa., was charged with theft, theft by deception, forgery, falsification of records, and other charges for allegedly stealing more than $5 million from the university since 1990.
Greb was director of auxiliary services and his job included oversight of food services, on-campus catering, mail distribution and the campus store. In June, university officials accused Greb of setting up a bogus food company through which he authorized payments to himself from La Salle.
The fake company was discovered after the university began using an enhanced invoice-control system. After being tipped off, university attorneys and a forensic accounting firm led a full investigation into the scheme.
La Salle is a private Roman Catholic university with about 7,000 students.
