A Philadelphia man will leave death row after reaching a rare agreement with the Bucks County prosecutors to change his sentence to life in prison without parole for killing an 18-year-old Bristol Township man in 2006.
The (Doylestown) Intelligencer said the agreement was announced Thursday in the case of 29-year-old David Ramtahal.
A jury in 2009 sentenced Ramtahal to death for the fatal shooting of Jarrett Osborne during a robbery.
Prosecutor Robert James said the sentencing change was made after Ramtahal's attorney presented evidence that his client suffered possible brain damage and post-traumatic stress disorder from abuse he suffered as a child, both in the U.S. and his native Trinidad.
That information wasn't available to the jury that handed down the death sentence.
