Hunter Dies in “Tragic Mishap”

A coroner says a western Pennsylvania hunter was accidentally shot by another member of his hunting party.

Cambria County Coroner Dennis Kwiatkowski says Timothy Bruce was fatally shot on Saturday afternoon in Adams Township.

The coroner says Bruce, who lived in Ashville, had been part of a deer hunting party and was shot by “another person in the hunting party when some deer went between the two of them.”

Township police chief Kirk Moss tells the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat that the death seems to be a “tragic mishap.”

“Everything they were doing at the time appears to be legal,” said Moss.

Local authorities and the state Game Commission will continue to investigate.

The emergency was reported about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Bruce was pronounced dead at the scene once the coroner arrived. Bruce died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Authorities say Bruce was either 41 or 42 years old.
