Gunmen Strike Again, Steal $105K from Armored Truck During Delivery

Police say the men brandished assault rifles during the latest heist

Armed gunmen made off with more than $100,000 in cash after holding up an armored truck on a delivery in Northeast Philadelphia. And investigators believe it isn't the first time the same thieves have struck.

The story plays out like scenes from the movie The Town as masked thieves target armored cars in broad daylight.

The latest heist took place around 9 a.m. on Thursday in the parking lot of the TD Bank branch at 6635 Frankford Avenue in the Tacony section of Philadelphia, police said.

Police say two men, armed with assault rifles and wearing black bandannas over their faces, held up a Garda armored truck employee during a cash delivery.

The gunmen fled in a white van and ditched that vehicle along the 6600 block of Tackawanna Street -- which is around the corner from the bank. Police say the men then jumped into a white Cadillac Escalade and fled. There may have been other occupants in the second car, police said.

The Cadillac was found later Thursday in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the 7900 block of Henry Avenue in Roxborough, according to police.

Authorities searched an apartment in building F of the complex and recovered a large amount of cash, presumably a portion of the $105,000 stolen in the morning heist, said investigators.

One suspect is described as 6-foot-1-inches tall, 160 lbs. and was wearing jeans and a gray hoodie. The other man is 5-foot-8-inches tall, thin build and was wearing jeans and a black hoodie.

Thursday's heist took place a little more than a mile from another Garda armored truck heist along Frankford Avenue on Halloween last year.

In that robbery, two suspects wore Scream masks and brandished assault rifles as they held up an armored truck delivery man. Those suspects made off $310,000.

Armored Car Heist Linked to Previous Hold-Up

[PHI] Armored Car Heist Linked to Previous Hold-Up
Philadelphia Police have linked Thursday's robbery of an armored car in Tacony, to a separate hold-up of an armored car last year. Investigators also believe they've located the getaway car used in Thursday's robbery of more than $105,000. NBC10's George Spencer has the latest on the investigation.

Investigators confirm the two heists are connected.

The FBI and Philadelphia Police continue to investigate and the suspects in both crimes are still on the loose.
