Giant/Martin's Remove Energy Bars From Shelves Following Recall

Undeclared milk in energy bars could cause allergic reactions

Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets announced Saturday that the company had removed several varieties of NuGO non-dairy energy bars from store shelves following a recall by the manufacturer.

Lifestyle Evolution Inc. announced the recall due to the presence of milk in the bars, which was not declared on the ingredient label. The products included in this recall are:

  • NuGO Nutrition Bar Dark Chocolate Trail Mix, UPC 69153545301, 16.9 oz, with a best by date in 2013
  • NuGO Natural Energy Bars Chocolate Chip, UPC 69153552101, 50 grams, with a best by date in 2013
  • NuGO Natural Energy Bars Dark Mocha, UPC 69153552301, 50 grams, with a best by date in 2013
  • NuGO Nutrition Bar Dark Pretzel, UPC 69153552901, 19.08 oz, with a best by date in 2013

A spokesman for Giant/Martin's said that the bars were safe to consume if customers do not suffer from a milk allergy. However, customers who do have a milk allergy can experience a life-threatening reaction if the product is consumed. Customers who are allergic are asked to discard any unconsumed energy bars and bring their purchase receipt to their local stores to receive a full refund.
