Funeral Held for Philly Cop

Funeral services were held Saturday morning for Philadelphia Police Sergeant Stephen Naughton.

Naughton died last Tuesday at the age of 55. He was driving north of Boathouse Row when police say he suffered a heart attack, causing him to lose control of his car.

His vehicle plunged off Kelly Drive and into the Schuylkill River.

A group of Good Samaritans pulled Naughton’s body out of the water. By the time he reached land, he had no pulse and was unresponsive.

He was taken to Hahnemann Hospital where he died from cardiac arrest.

A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. at the St. Phillip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill.

Naughton was a 31-year veteran of the police force assigned to the Community Relations Unit. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
