Family, Friends Gather for Funeral of Trooper Killed at Gun Range

Family and friends mourned Pennsylvania State Trooper David Kedra, who was accidentally shot and killed at a suburban Philly gun range training center.

A memorial service took place at 6 p.m. Sunday at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia.

A funeral mass for Kedra will begin Monday at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church on Morrell Avenue and Chesterfield Road in Philadelphia.

Kedra, who enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in June 2012, was shot in the chest by another trooper Tuesday during a yearly training exercise at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Complex in Conshohocken, near Philadelphia, state police said.

He was flown by helicopter to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Instead of flowers, the family requested mourners donate to the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association's Troopers Helping Troopers Foundation in Kedra's memory.

Kedra, a 2006 graduate of Roman Catholic High School and a 2010 graduate of Temple University, was named Trooper of the Month in July 2013, his obituary said.

Raised in Northeast Philly before making his home in East Coventry Township, Chester County, Kedra is survived by his parents, George and Joan; brothers, Kevin and Brian; a sister, Christine; and his fiancee, Suzanne Carrieri.

Gov. Tom Corbett ordered Pennsylvania flags to fly at half-staff in Kedra's honor Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kedra's memory can be made to PSTA Troopers Helping Troopers, 3625 Vartan Way, Harrisburg, Pa., 17110.

The campus where the shooting occurred has classrooms and training facilities for firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians.
