Drunk Dirt Biker Tries to Escape Police, Assaults K-9 Officer: Cops

Officers say while attempting to take Kevin Kelly Jr. into custody, the 20 year old intentionally struck a police K-9 in the chest with his knee

Gloucester Township Police say they were on patrol around 2 a.m. Saturday when two dirt bikers pulled out in front of their patrol car. The bikers were not wearing helmets and were traveling at a high rate of speed, according to police.

The officers say they attempted to pull over the bikers, but they didn't slow down. Police say after one of the men's bikes stalled, he took off on foot into the woods.

Police tracked down the man, identified as Kevin Kelly Jr., with the help of a K-9 team. Officers say while attempting to take Kelly into custody, the 20 year old intentionally struck a police K-9 in the chest with his knee.

Kelly, of Sicklerville, N.J., was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, eluding a police officer, and inflicting harm to a law enforcement animal.

He's being held at Camden County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Gloucester Township Police are searching for the second dirt biker and ask anyone with information to leave an anonymous tip at 856-842-5560.
