The Delaware Symphony Orchestra and its musicians union have finalized a three-year contract.
The News Journal of Wilmington reports the orchestra finalized the contract at its annual board meeting Thursday.
Board chair Tatiana Copeland also announced that the orchestra is getting $75,000 in state funds and that the orchestra was named the beneficiary of a restricted, $600,000 trust.
It will help us start our year,” Copeland said. “[Development Director] Ellen [Roberts] will do great fundraising, but when you have nothing in the till, you need to get it going.”
Last month, Wilmington's mayor and the county executive of New Castle County were instrumental in persuading symphony leadership and the union to restart negotiations. Both leaders have pledged one-time grants of $50,000 each from their respective budgets to support the orchestra.
