Decomposed Body Found in Christina River

Investigators are trying to identity a body found in the Christina River in Delaware Tuesday morning.

Police say industrial painters were working under the elevated section of the Christiana Bypass (DE 7) around 10:15 a.m. when they found the decomposing body of an unidentified adult male. Police say the body was found 12 feet from the western rock embankment of the Christina River in three feet of water. Investigators also say the body was fully clothed.

State Troopers and the New Castle County Swift Water Rescue Team removed the body from the water and turned it over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An autopsy will be performed to determine the man’s identity and the exact cause of death.

Delaware State Police are investigating to determine whether or not the death is suspicious.
