A 23-year-old East Germantown man is facing homicide charges in a deadly stabbing at a Center City Philadelphia SEPTA station earlier this month.
Police took Zair Bennett-Warrick, of East Collom Street, into custody just after 7 p.m. Tuesday in North Philadelphia. Bennett-Warrick face murder charges in the deadly attack on a Regional Rail platform at SEPTA's busy Jefferson Station during the early morning hours of Aug. 9.
The victim, identified by The Associated Press as 28-year-old David Simpson, was stabbed several times at the station around 3:15 a.m. He was rushed to nearby Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he died about an hour later.
The entire incident was captured on SEPTA surveillance video.
“You can see the perpetrator actually on top of the victim, who’s laying on the platform being stabbed numerous times,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
After the stabbing, the suspect goes up the steps and exits the station on the street level, leaving a trail of blood through the station, Small said.
Police have not revealed a motive for the attack.
It was unclear if Bennett-Warrick has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
