DUI Driver Strikes, Kills Teen Boy in South Jersey: Police

Friends and family are mourning a teen boy who police say was struck and killed by a man driving under the influence early Sunday morning.

Antwan Timbers Jr., 17, was walking home with his friend on Route 130 South and East Federal Street in Burlington City shortly after midnight when he was struck by a vehicle. Timbers, a Burlington City resident and junior at Burlington City High School, was pronounced dead at the scene. Corinthia Davis told NBC10 she witnessed the crash.

"I seen the black Escalade truck jump the curve, hit the pole that they're putting back up and hit the guy," Davis said. "I seen him laying on the ground."

The driver of the striking vehicle, Ricardo Patterson III, 42, of Willingboro, remained at the scene, police said. He was later arrested and charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

The Burlington City Police Department is working with the Burlington City school district to have crisis teams and counselors available to students Monday. A GoFundMe page was also created for Timbers' family.

Timbers' father told NBC10 his son was in the ROTC and dreamed of joining the military.

Officials continue to investigate the crash.
