Church Volunteer Sexually Assaults Boy: Cops

Samuel Bangs, 23, is accused of sexually assaulting an underage boy that he met while working as a youth mentor at a Camden County church.

Police arrested a man after he allegedly sexually assaulted an underage boy he met while volunteering at a Camden County church.

Samuel Bangs, 23, of Bellmawr, is accused of engaging in illegal sexual conduct with a boy under the age of 16 at various locations over the past two months. Police say some of the incidents have taken place in public parks.

Bangs met the boy while volunteering as a youth mentor at Grace Bible Church in Barrington, according to investigators. Police say Bangs was no longer a mentor to the boy when the alleged sexual assault took place.

Police say the boy reported the incidents on Friday and Bangs was arrested on Saturday. He is charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a minor and criminal sexual contact.

While only one boy has reported that Bangs abused him, police are concerned with the fact that Bangs worked with children. Anyone with information on other inappropriate interactions between Bangs and juveniles should call the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-225-8400.
