Baseball Bat Attacker Arrested

Police have arrested a 27-year-old in Elmhurst and charged him with assault after they found him beating another man with a baseball bat Sunday morning.

Mark Kenney was arrested shortly before 4 a.m. when officers responded to a call about a disturbance in the 300 block of W. Summit Ave. New Castle police said they heard what sounded like a fight in progress inside the home.

When they went inside, they found Kenney hitting another man in the back and the head. That man was also fighting with another person in the home.

The police ordered Kenney to put down the bat, which he did, but then he ran into the back of the home. The man who had been beaten crawled over to the officers and collapsed, they said. He was bleeding heavily from several deep lacerations and suffered a seizure before being brought to Christiana Hospital.

Kenney later surrended without incident, according to police. His arraignment is pending.
