28 Years Later, Man Guilty in A.C. Killing

Jury finds former fugitive guilty of manslaughter

For the second time, a New York City man has been convicted of a 1984 killing in New Jersey.

An Atlantic County jury deliberated for two days before finding Brian Wilson guilty of manslaughter on Friday.

It marked the fourth time Wilson has stood trial for the slaying of Zebedee Newmones, a Delaware resident who was shot five times in Atlantic City 28 years ago. Newmones later died from his wounds.

Wilson, now 47, was a fugitive for 18 years and was on the New Jersey State Police's most wanted list until his arrest in 2002. Two trials ended without a verdict before he was convicted in February 2006.

But a state appellate court overturned the conviction in 2009, ruling that prosecutors should have disclosed information about some of the witnesses who testified against Wilson.

Wilson will be sentenced on March 1.

A second man involved in shooting Newmones, William Parker, pleaded guilty in 2006 while serving time for an unrelated incident, according to prosecutors.
