Another Drunken Dad Drives to Pick up DUI Son in Jail: Police

Drunken and Drunker Part Deux?

Only a few weeks after an identical scenario in central Pennsylvania, a Chadds Ford father was arrested for drunken driving when he police say he arrived intoxicated at a police station to pick up his son -- who had been arrested for drunken driving.

Timothy Smith drove from his Chadds Ford home to the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Media 10:45 p.m. Saturday. Smith told the troopers that he was there to pick up his son, who was being held for driving under the influence, reports the Daily News.

But troopers said they could smell what Smith had been doing before leaving his house to pick up his drunken son. He was arrested on DUI charges and put in jail with his son.

It is unknown who picked the two of them up.

Strangely enough, the Smithsโ€™ alleged behavior is not uncommon.  On Jan. 20, 44-year-old David Peterson Sr. of Bellwood, Pa., drove to a police station to pick up his son David Peterson Jr. who had been arrested for drunken driving after he was found passed out in his car.

Police say the elder Petersonโ€™s blood-alcohol content was one-and-a-half times the state's legal limit when he drove to the police station, while his son's was slightly more than double the legal limit.

This lack of sense is not designated to fathers and sons, either.

Police tell the Daily News that Timothy Wright of Wilmington, Del., drove drunk to the state police barracks in Media on Jan. 15 to pick up his lady friend. He was also arrested for a DUI.
