Amusement Park Open Despite Fire

A historic northwestern Pennsylvania amusement park is open despite a fire that destroyed its beach club and an attached banquet facility.

Investigators say it could take days to determine what caused the fire that destroyed the Dockside banquet facility and the Beach Club at Conneaut Lake Park on Thursday. The facilities are part of the park about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh, but are leased from the public trust that runs the park and run by a separate partnership.

The fire was reported about 2:20 a.m. Thursday.

The financially struggling park is home to the Blue Streak, one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in America, and depends on the entertainment facilities to draw guests.

Weddings booked for the banquet hall may be moved to a park hotel, but other events could be lost.
