2 Charged in Alleged Gang Rape of 7-Year-Old

Two Trenton men charged with sexual assault in alleged gang-rape case

A grand jury indicted two Trenton men on charges of sexual assault of a 7-year-old, in connection to the alleged gang rape in Rowan Towers apartment complex last March, authorities say.

The six-count indictment charges Gregory J. Leary, also known as “Shrimp” and “Smiley,” of Jackson Street in Trenton, and Timear Lewis, also known as “Fess,” of Division Street in Trenton, with first-degree sexual assault, as well as second- and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Leary is also charged with two counts of sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child in relation to the 7-year-old girls’ 15-year-old stepsister.

Police said that the 15-year-old sister brought the 7-year-old girl to a party on the 13th floor of Rowan Towers on the 600 block of West State Street March 28. The young teen was paid for sex by several men and then took money to allow men and boys to have sex with her stepsister, police say.

Though preliminary DNA test reports found no evidence of semen on the 7-year-old, assistant Mercer County Prosecutor Jennifer Downing said in June that the lack of DNA will not cripple the state’s case against two men and three teenagers.

Leary’s attorney said in June that the 7-year-old made up the story of the gang rape because she was in trouble for running away with her stepsister.

Leary is free on $50,000 bail. Lewis is free on $75,000 bail.
