2 of 7 Missing Rehoboth Beach Lifeguard Stands Found

Rehoboth Beach Police have found two of the seven lifeguard stands that were recently stolen from the beach.

Rehoboth Police Chief Keith Banks tells WXDE-FM that a fishing boat spotted the two stands floating about two miles offshore near Fenwick Island on Saturday. Mark Sampson, the operator of the boat, was able to bring one of the stands to shore.

Banks says beach sweepers noticed the seven stands were missing early Thursday.

A Delaware State Police helicopter later cruised the coastline but did not see any stands in the water at the time.

Rehoboth Beach Patrol Capt. Kent Buckson says the stands weigh 500 pounds each and cost about $800 apiece.
