13-Year-Old Shot in Foot, But Police Don't Know How or Why

The 13-year-old told police he had been walking with a friend when he heard a gunshot, looked down and noticed his foot was bleeding.

Philadelphia police are trying to piece together how a 13-year-old boy was shot in the right foot.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and East Ontario Street. The 13-year-old told police he had been walking with a friend when he heard a gunshot, looked down and noticed his foot was bleeding.

When police went to investigate the crime scene, they could find no evidence of a shooting. Officials interviewed neighbors, none of whom heard gunshots. Surveillance video also did not show signs of an incident, police said.

β€œWe’re not certain at this time that this 13-year-old boy is telling us the truth about where he shot,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The teen was taken to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
