Hep B Cure Could Be Discovered in Bucks Co.

If a hepatitis B cure is discovered, it might very well happen inside the walls of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center in Bucks County.

Michael J. Sofia is hopeful a start-up company he co-founded β€” OnCore Biopharma β€” is the one that makes the breakthrough. OnCore Biopharma is in the early stages of developing a potential cure for hepatitis B, an infectious disease of the liver that afflicts an estimated 400 million people worldwide.

β€œWe have identified some technologies that we are ready to hit the laboratory with,” said Sofia, who declined to provide details for competitive reasons. β€œThey’ve been developed to an early-stage level. We need to further improve and optimize them to take them forward and make them clinic-ready.” Read more about this story on PBJ.com.
