Students on Alert After Muggings at Lehigh

A recent string of robberies have targeted students at Lehigh University, police said.

Since Thursday, five people -- including three college students -- were robbed while walking alone on the South side of Bethlehem, police said.

Police believe that the victims were targeted specifically because they were alone at the time, Lt. Mark DiLuzio told the Morning Call.

The first three robberies happened Thursday night and targeted students. Then on Sunday a man and a woman -- one of whom was a university researcher -- were held up at gunpoint in separate incidents, police told the Morning Call.

Descriptions of the two thieves are the same for both sets of attacks -- black men ages 18 to 20 wearing dark hoodies to cover their faces. They made off with cell phones, cash and student ID cards.

In reaction to the attacks, the campus sent out an email telling students to be diligent and to stay in groups when walking around. And, if you had to travel alone, students are urged to call for personal escorts or buses.
