This year, though, there are even more options at Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia. is holding an extra 10K run this year alongside its 5K run/ 2-mile walk and the Tony’s Trot for Kids Fun Run.

"The 10K has attracted a whole new level of participants and this year’s numbers are growing fast!  To date, registration numbers are more than twice what they were at this time last year.” Said Maria Grasso the sales director of Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The race will start in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and run along the West River Drive.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., the kids run starts at 9 and the 5K and 10K start at 9:30 with the walk to follow. You can register online right now for $25 for adults and 12 for kids under 12 or in person for 30 bucks for adults and 15 bucks for kids the day of the race.

Former Philadelphia Eagle and colon cancer survivor Vince Papale as well our very own cancer survivor, Terry Ruggles, and honorary event chair Mayor Michael Nutter will be making appearances on race day.

Participating in this run will certainly help bring awareness and help earlier detection to the second leading cancer killer in America.

“Statistics tell us that more than 150,000 are diagnosed every year and 50,000 do not survive,” said Grasso. “Many of those people are from this region. We want to change those numbers.”

Because it’s Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, participating in the run will mean even more to those affected.
