New Scanners Debut at Philly Airport

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) introduced a new scanning technology at the Philadelphia International Airport on Wednesday.

The machines create a computerized image of a person’s body, which gives screeners the ability to check for weapons.

Passengers going through security have the option of using the new technology or sticking with an old fashioned metal detector.

Those who choose not to use the scanner must undergo a newly enhanced manual search.

TSA agents will now use the front of their hands in searches, including an agent running their hands up the passenger’s leg.

The government’s goal is to install 450 machines by the end of the year, according to philly.com.
