Philly Rapper Moves From Federal to Halfway House

Rapper Beanie Sigel has been moved from a federal prison to a halfway house after serving a two-year tax evasion sentence.

The Bureau of Prisons told Philly.com that 40-year-old Sigel was moved from prison to a Philadelphia-area residential re-entry system on Thursday.

Authorities said Sigel, whose real name is Dwight Grant, had failed to pay more than $700,000 in taxes.

Defense attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. told BET.com last week that the halfway house will give his client ``a chance to be reintegrated back into the community.''

Sigel was also sentenced in March of last year to six to 23 months on a narcotics possession charge following a traffic stop in the Philadelphia suburbs. Officials said that sentence would run at the same time as the federal sentence.
