Chance the Rapper Brings Songs to ‘SNL' in 1st Hosting Appearance

"I wanna become the Mariah Carey of Thanksgiving," the rapper said

First-time "Saturday Night Live" host Chance the Rapper dedicated his opening monologue to Thanksgiving.

"In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I pledge to give $1 million to Chicago public schools," he said, calling to mind a pledge he made in September to donate $2 million to 20 Chicago public schools.

But then, the Chicago native realized he didn't have enough money to be so charitable. The rapper then pondered making a holiday hit to make money.

"I wanna become the Mariah Carey of Thanksgiving," the rapper said.

Chance the Rapper then used the rest of his monologue to sing about seeing family members you "normally fear" on Thanksgiving.

In a pre-taped sketch, Chance the Rapper, Kenan Thompson and Chris Redd sang as a '90s R&B boyband and beg former President Barack Obama to resume office.

"Come back Barack," they lament in the chorus. "Even though it’s not allowed, we want you back somehow. I need you in my life, like really bad, like world war bad."

Chance the Rapper told Jimmy Fallon on the "Tonight Show" that he showed up to "SNL's" rehearsal with five sketches to pitch for the show. Of the five, three made it to the dress rehearsal.
