    Mmm... Mexican food!

Gone are the times when the last day of the week would find home cooks slaving over a braise or long-simmering stew. Sundays are fast becoming the night to get out of the kitchen. More and more restaurants are offering "everything must go" prices on what used to be the deadest night of the week.

Society Hill Mexican Xochitl has been offering its $35 dinners long before Center City eateries had begun conceiving their Restaurant Week menus. Unlike the latter, Xochitl offers patrons the choice of ordering any appetizer, entrée and dessert instead of limiting them to a specific menu. They even throw in an order of guacamole that's prepared tableside.

Those who might miss those long-cooked meals like momma used to make can choose between Barbacoa de Borrego Borracho (slow-cooked lamb with pulque) or Costillas de Puerco en Salsa Verde (pork ribs braised with salsa verde). Momma, meanwhile, can enjoy her margarita knowing someone else will be doing the dishes.
