Paddle Up and Down the Schuylkill

Jump in a kayak and get a view of the city from the river

What are you gonna do when a hot, humid Saturday comes along this summer?

You can go to the shore, visit a neighborhood pool…wait, scratch that, visit your neighbor's pool, dance in the street under a fire hydrant or even take a dip in the Schuylkill (we don't recommend that).

Or you can pick up an oar and set off for a guided tour of the Schuylkill River and its surrounding banks in your own kayak.

Hidden River Outfitters and the Schuylkill Banks are offering three unique tours almost every weekend this summer. All tours begin at the Walnut Street Dock below the Walnut Street Bridge near 25th Street.

The most popular tour will take a group of kayakers up the river about a mile to the Fairmount Water Works at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

An advanced tour paddles downriver to Bartram's Garden. Once there, adventurers will dock for lunch and explore the gardens before trekking back to the dock.

There's even a moonlight journey upriver for those looking for a cooler, more romantic tour.

Prices range from $40 - $75 per person and include an instructional lesson, equipment rental and a professional tour guide.

For more information, check out the Schuylkill Banks' website.
