Award winning, Emmy- nominated Journalist Monique Braxton joined the NBC 10 News Team in July of 2000. Braxton's coverage of breaking news, lead stories and her knack for landing exclusive interviews has made her one of Philadelphia's most respected and credible journalists. From January 2001 to April 2004, she anchored NBC 10's Weekend Evening News.

Prior to joining NBC 10 News, Braxton was an anchor and correspondent with MSNBC. She also anchored NBC’s Sunrise and was a contributing correspondent for Nightly News Weekend.

During Hurricane Floyd, Braxton covered the storm’s approach and the devastating flood in North Carolina. Braxton co-produced and reported a three-part series celebrating Black History Month. The series focused on the Changing Faces of Politics, the Glass Ceiling and Civil Rights Today. She provided live coverage of the Clinton scandal and impeachment, the death of JFK, Jr., plane crashes of Swissair and Egyptair, the rescue and reunion of Elian Gonzalez, and the Kosovo crisis from Aviano Airbase in Italy, and Atlantic Fleet headquarters in Norfolk, VA.

Before joining MSNBC in 1998, Braxton was a freelance reporter at WBAL in Baltimore, Maryland. Preceding the WBAL news team, she was a weekday morning anchor in Washington, D.C. with NewsChannel 8 Cable Network. While at NewsChannel 8, Braxton received a 1996 Emmy Nomination for her anchoring, and received the Best Public Affairs Award for her 1996 documentary, “Who We Are: Military.” Additionally, Braxton received several civic awards for her interviews with national, state and local officials. From 1989 to 1995, Braxton served as reporter and anchor/bureau chief for WAVY-NBC in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Braxton graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcasting as well as a Master of Science in Media Management from Virginia Commonwealth University. She was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at VCU. She has also taught Broadcast Journalism courses at Virginia Union University and Virginia State University.

Braxton has won numerous civic awards including in 2008 being named among 100 Influential Black Women in Philadelphia, the 2007 Gimper Award from The Urban Education Fund (Gimpers are those who inspire, excel, are different, those who do a little extra, set sights high,and are dedicated and passionate about excellence). 2007 Humanitarian-Media Award from J & J HipHop Anti-Violence Youth Success Fest, American Women’s Heritage Society ‘Movers & Shakers’ Award in 2007, the Dawn Staley Foundation Community Award in 2006, Delta Sigma Theta 25 years of Service Award in 2004, Minority Women in Business Outstanding Professional Award in 2004, Ebenezer Seventh Day Adventist Church Community Service Award in 2004, US Women’s Chamber of Commerce Award in 2002, 4th Annual Black Executive Corporate Award for Perseverance, and Execution and Success in 2002.

Braxton is a member of professional organizations such as: AFTRA, American Association of University Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and the National Association of Black Journalists. She is also a member of the Radio and Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) and The Links, Incorporated.

Braxton is active in the community with groups such as African American Children’s Book Fair, Asthma Awareness programs, BEBASHI, Career Wardrobe, Family Care Solutions, Sickle Cell Community Advocacy Committee at CHOP, and the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. When she is not working, she enjoys aerobics, cardio dancing, shopping, traveling, cooking, reading, motivational speaking, and listening to gospel and jazz music.

Braxton resides in Montgomery County with her family.
