Rhys Hoskins' Sliding Catch Starts Triple Play in Phillies' Win Vs. Cubs

Rookie Rhys Hoskins continues to have something of a magic touch for the Phillies.

Already off to a record-setting start at the plate, the rookie started the 14th triple play in club history in Sunday's 6-3 against the Cubs, and the first since Aug. 7, 2016 (see Instant Replay).

Hoskins -called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Aug. 10 - had hit his 10th homer in just his 57th major-league at-bat Saturday against Chicago, becoming the quickest to that number in modern major league history, according to Elias.

He added his 11th Sunday, a solo shot in the eighth off reliever Koji Uehara (watch here). Hoskins also became the fifth player in Phillies history to homer in five straight games and set a club rookie record with his 11th homer of the month.

The triple play came in the fifth inning Sunday. The Cubs, leading 3-0, put runners at first and second with none out against Phillies starter Nick Pivetta.

Hoskins, playing left field, then snared Javier Baez's sinking liner and threw to Cesar Hernandez at second for the out on Anthony Rizzo, who was running on contact. Hernandez fired to Tommy Joseph at first to retire Tommy LaStella, who also left early.

The Cubs then challenged whether Hoskins caught the ball, but the play was upheld.

The Phillies erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning.
