Best of MLB: Yelich, Marlins Complete Road Sweep of Pirates

PITTSBURGH -- Jose Urena's start Sunday had little resemblance to his previous outing.

Urena allowed two runs and four hits in six innings, and the Miami Marlins rallied past the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 to complete a three-game sweep.

Christian Yelich homered in the first inning and Miami added a pair of unearned runs in sweeping a series for the sixth time this season. Urena (2-4) bounced back after allowing a five-run first inning at Cincinnati on Tuesday.

"This is a different game and a different day, too," the 24-year-old right-hander said. "You're going to face different hitters, so you go out there and face these hitters because you know you can do the job."

Urena lowered his ERA from 6.80 to 6.33

"He kept the ball down today," Miami manager Don Mattingly said. "They were aggressive early, swinging the bats. He had that one inning in there where he got himself into trouble. Other than that, he was good all day."

Fernando Rodney completed the five-hitter, working around a two-out walk in the ninth. Rodney retired Francisco Cervelli on a game-ending groundout for his third save of the series and 24th in 26 chances this season (see full recap).

Arenado's 2 home runs, 6 RBIs power Rockies past Cubs
DENVER -- A late-night session in the batting cage and a spirited discussion helped Nolan Arenado get his swing back.

Arenado broke out of a slump in a big way, hitting two homers and driving in six runs Sunday to boost the Colorado Rockies past the Chicago Cubs, 11-4.

The All-Star third baseman was 1 of 16 during the Rockies' homestand before getting four hits. He passed Cubs slugger Kris Bryant for the NL homer lead.

"I've been grinding, I haven't really felt like myself, so to be up there, it's a good feeling," Arenado said.

Arenado credited Sunday's results to his work with batting practice pitcher Garrett Carson late Saturday night. He said the two stayed after the loss to the Cubs to watch video and work in the cage.

"We almost got into an argument," Arenado said. "He would be like, `I feel like there's not much off' and I'd be like, `No, there is something off.'"

The two concluded Arenado was overstriding, and he went into Sunday's game with renewed confidence (see full recap).

Ramirez's 2-run homer in 8th lifts Indians past Blue Jays
CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona was relieved following Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jose Ramirez hit a two-run homer off Brett Cecil in the eighth inning and the Indians rallied to win the series between AL division leaders.

"We won two out of three, and I think we had the lead for like 10 minutes," Francona said.

The series featured three one-run games, large crowds and a playoff-like atmosphere.

"There's no feeling that I can think of like that," Francona said. "Your heart is in your throat but you like it. It's agony, but it's also awesome. That's why we do this."

Tyler Naquin's game-ending, inside-the-park home run gave Cleveland a 3-2 victory Friday, and the Blue Jays won 6-5 Saturday (see full recap).

Keuchel solid, Gurriel debuts and Astros beat Orioles 5-3
BALTIMORE -- Dallas Keuchel gave the Houston Astros the kind of performance they expect each time the left-hander takes the mound.

While the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner has struggled through parts of the season, the confidence of his manager and teammates never wavered. Now, Keuchel might be coming around at the perfect time for his team.

Keuchel was solid through eight innings, Yulieski Gurriel got a hit in his major league debut and the Astros beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 in a rain-delayed victory Sunday.

The Astros won the last three games in the four-game series, outscoring Baltimore 32-13 over that stretch. The slumping Orioles have lost four of five and are 9-16 over their past 25 games.

"Best fastball command I have had all year," Keuchel said. "That really jump-started a lot of things for me. We have to play our game and not try to do too much. Any time you win a series in the big leagues is big."

Keuchel (8-12) allowed two runs and five hits with seven strikeouts. Ken Giles picked up his third save despite allowing Mark Trumbo to hit his major league-leading 37th home run (see full recap).
