Rides will be free on the entirety of the new leg of Pittsburgh's light rail system thanks to an agreement involving the Pittsburgh Steelers and a downtown casino.

Under a deal announced Wednesday the Steelers and Rivers Casino will foot the bill for rides to and from the Allegheny Station on the Port Authority's Light Rail Transit system.

An earlier deal with the Pittsburgh Stadium Authority and Alco Parking covered rides to and from the North Side station.

The two three-year agreements mean free rides the entire length of the new 1.2 mile North Shore Connector when it opens March 25.
