The Phillies must now search for a way to replace Durbin and Romero.

The Phillies bullpen took a big hit Thursday when left-hander J.C. Romero and righty Chad Durbin were both placed on the disabled list.

Romero was suffering from a strain to his throwing arm. He posted a 2.87 ERA, 12 strikeouts and 13 walks in 15.2 innings with no decisions since returning from a 50-day suspension for testing positive for a banned substance.

Durbin was shut down with a right latissimus strain. He struggled at times this season while posting a 1-2 record with a 4.62 ERA in 48.2 innings over 42 appearances.

The Phillies recalled Tyler Walker and Andrew Carpenter to take the place of J.C. and “Durbs” in the pen.

Carpenter earned the win in one start with the Phils earlier this season and Walker was actually quite effective going 1-0 with 5 K’s, one walk and a 1.64 ERA over 11 innings out of the Phightins’ pen.

This was certainly a blow to the Phillies pitching staff and could now mean that the Phillies will be more aggressive in trying to trade for another bullpen arm.
