Phils Remain Favorites to Get a Halladay: SI

The Phillies remained the top contender to land coveted Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, according to a report by Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman.

But if the deal happened it would cost the Phillies both $23 million to pay Halladay and probably four top prospects.

The Phillies could get the deal done “real quick,” said a competing executive to Heyman. But for that to happen they Phils would need to part ways with No. 1 prospect Kyle Drabek.

The Phillies don't seem to want to deal Drabek especially after General Manager Ruben Amaro said "it'd be tough" to deal the young righty.

The Phils and Jays already talked about guys like outfield stud Michael Taylor, shortstop Jason Donald and pitcher Carlos Carrasco heading north of the border, said Heyman.

So is Drabek the domino that needs to fall for a mid-summer Halladay to come to Philly?

Who knows? The real question was -- with the Phillies starting to pull away in the east would it be worth adding the payroll of a sure thing by losing many possible quality (and inexpensive) years from future stars?

The question was a hot topic Monday on The 700 Level.
