Mets Great Gary Carter Gets Good News in Cancer Bout

57-year-old Hall of Famer''s tumor is shrinking, says daughter.

Beloved former Met Gary Carter has gotten some good news in his battle with cancer, according to his daughter.

The former catcher's daughter Kimmy Bloemers told ESPN doctors have told the family Carter's brain tumors have shrunk. She said her father, a member of the Mets' 1986 World Champion team, is starting a new treatment of chemotherapy.

"There is much less swelling and the tumors are less dense and 'less angry,'" Bloemers said.

Doctors said in May that the 57-year-old Carter had Stage 4 brain cancer, and said the glioblastoma was inoperable.

The California native broke into the Major Leagues with the Montreal Expos in 1974, then was traded to the Mets in 1985, becoming one of the final pieces the team needed to win the World Series a year later. He played five years for the Mets, before eventually retiring in 1992. For his carer, Carter slugged 324 home runs and recorded 1,225 run batted in.

He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003, choosing to go in as an Expo.
