Well, thanks for nothin'. The player who helped win Super Bowl XLII for the New York Giants by precariously catching a pass on his helmet has been cut from the team.

While Big Blue fans may be disappointed one of their Super Bowl heroes won't be on the team any longer, it's no surprise David Tyree got the boot; even he expected it.

The 29-year-old wide receiver and special teams player who has been plagued by injuries was told this morning that he had been waived, according to the Daily News.

Tyree was trying to make a comeback after missing all of last season due to hamstring and knee injuries, but he was erratic in the beginning of training camp and then lost major playing time due to a hamstring injury. When he was held to the sidelines for the last two preseason games, it seemed pretty clear his career as a Giant was over.

Quarterback Eli Manning hailed Tyree as a great friend and teammate just a day before the wide receiver was released.

“Honestly, I will always have a special place in my heart, not only because of the play he made in the Super Bowl, but just the person he is and the friend he has been for me," Manning said. "It’s a tough situation, but he has been a great teammate.”

Tyree has said he would consider looking to other teams to continue his football career, but truth be told, he's already made the greatest play of his life.
