Flyers Start Eastern Conference Defense in Pittsburgh

Flyers start 2010-11 season on the road

Some fans might say the Flyers got a raw deal to start the defense of their Eastern Conference championship.

They will have to start the 2010-11 season on two road games.

The Flyers announced their upcoming season schedule Tuesday.

It feels like just yesterday we were mourning losing the Stanley Cup, but a new hope arrives -- even if the road to a second straight Finals starts versus the Orange and Black's cross-state rivals.

The defending Eastern Conference Champions (it feels so good to say that!) open their 44th season in the NHL against Sidney Crosby's Penguins on Thursday, Oct. 7 in Pittsburgh.

They will then also try to avoid a case of the Blues as they play in St. Louis before returning to the Wachovia Center for their home opener Monday, Oct. 11 versus the Colorado Avalanche.

For the third year in a row, the Flyers will get to play against every other hockey club in the NHL. The 82-game slate will heavily feature division foes -- the Fly Guys get the Devils, Islanders, Rangers and Pens six times each.

The Flyers face every non-division Eastern Conference team four times, two at home and two away. They play every team in the Western Conference at least once. There will be both home and road games against the Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars and L.A. Kings, due to designated “at large” games.

It's unfortunate that their will only be one rematch of the Stanley Cup Final as the Flyers get another shot at the Blackhawks on Jan. 23 in Chicago.

In total, there are 30 weekend games and 52 weekday games, plenty of chances to see your beloved Flyers in action. But, they will again be away from home for the holidays as they don't play a home game from Dec. 20 to Jan. 8 to allow Toy Story 3 on Ice to take over the Wachovia Center ice.

“We had an incredible post-season run and we want to capitalize on that momentum next season,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko.

The television and radio schedule are soon to follow. For season ticket info and more on the Flyers call 215-218-PUCK or visit their website.
