We will finally find out who will be playing for the Union.
Wednesday is a big day for the Philadelphia Union as they pick their first players through the MLS’ Expansion Draft.
The Union will pick their first 10 players from a list of footballers left unprotected by their respective teams with the caveat that they can select only one player from each of the 15 current MLS teams.
The draft takes place a 2 p.m. The complete list of unprotected players includes some major names.
Philly.com’s Pretzel Logic Blog broke down the most likely targets.
Goalkeeper Pat Onstad, defender James Riley, mid fielder Bobby Convey and forward Pat Noonan could be on their radar, according to Philly.com.
But, they might opt for another keeper instead of Onstad because of his age, according to FanNation. It would make sense considering the longtime goalie would turn 42 before the Union ever took the field.
The best bet is that the Union will take aim at younger players locked into contracts who don’t have European aspirations.
And sorry David Beckham wasn't left unprotected by the Galaxy so don't expect him to be playing in Chester next season.
