University of Pennsylvania Expands Homeownership Incentive Program

The University of Pennsylvania has expanded the boundaries of its homeownership program in West Philadelphia.

The program offers a variety of financing tools to encourage Penn employees to buy a house in West Philadelphia or renovate a residential property as a way of stabilizing, enhancing and revitalizing the community surrounding the university. The school also offers refinancing options, home improvement grants and other special loans.

Penn hasn’t expanded the geographic area of the program since 2004. The program was originally established in 1965. This latest round was prompted by the school’s expansion to an area called the South Bank, which had been known as the Marshall Labs. It also hasn’t had a property go through the program since 2011.
